Gas works are set to be launched in the town of Nea Anchialos, Municipality of Volos.

In a climate of excellent cooperation, on Monday, December 17th 2018, a meeting was held between Mr. Achilleas Beos, Mayor of Volos and EDA THESS at the Town Hall of Nea Anchialos.
At the joint press conference, Mr. Achilleas Beos, Mayor of Volos, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS, and Ms. Efthymia Kalogirou, Manager of Development and New Connections of Thessaly, officially announced the Gas Distribution Network extension to the Town of Nea Anchialos and the Community of Mikrothives.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Konstantinos Tzaerlis, Town Mayor, Mr. Eirini Retzoula, Local Councilor of the Community of Mikrothives, and Mr. Ioannis Kitsios, President of the “Dimitra” Vinicultural Cooperative.
Mr. Achilleas Beos, Mayor of Volos, stressed that gas supply of Nea Anchialos was a standing request of the Municipal Authority and it is rather important to be implemented within 2019. Addressing the citizens of the Town of Nea Anchialos, he urged them to apply for gas connection. He also pointed out that in January 2019, the Municipal Authority shall sign the contracts for gas connection of the eight local municipal buildings, underlining the economic benefits entailed.
Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS, said that the Gas Distribution Network construction works shall start in February 2019 and the area shall be fed within the first half of the same year. He added that gas network extension to Nea Anchialos is an investment of more than €2m, in compliance with the Five-Year Development Plan. Within 2019, 11 km of low-pressure network shall be constructed and by 2023 the network is expected to exceed 16 km. The Network deployment shall continue aiming at covering most of the region, following the citizens’ recorded interest.
Such an interest in 2019 requires network extension to “Aivaliotika” settlement. Within the next year, the energy needs of the Alikes site in Volos shall be recorded.
Furthermore, it was also stressed that “Dimitra” Vinicultural Cooperative of Nea Anchialos, shall also benefit from the use of gas, with Mr. Ioannis Kitsios, President of the “Dimitra” Vinicultural Cooperative, characterizing such access to the fuel an “ambitious” project.
