On the coldest night of this winter, Gas flame was symbolically lit up in the central square of Elassona during an event co-organized by EDA THESS and the Municipality of Elassona and honored with the presence of Mr. Konstantinos Agorastos, Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Nikolaos Papadopoulos, Larissa MP with SYRIZA (Radical Left governing party), Mr. Grigorios Papagaralampous, President of the Regional Council of Thessaly, Mr. Nikolaos Evangelou, Mayor of Elassona, Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, President of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE-TCG) Department of Central and Western Thessaly, Ms. Sofia Dimogianni, EDA THESS BoD Vice-Chairwoman, and Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS.
On behalf of the Corporate Affairs Unit, Operational Independence of the Gas Distribution Company was underlined; thus all potential consumers are free to choose the Certified Technician to implement the indoor installation after the meter as we as the Distribution Users.
In his speech, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS, thanked the District Governor of Thessaly and the Mayor of Elassona for their excellent cooperation, enabling the gas supply of Elassona, an investment of more than €3m. He also thanked the EDA THESS shareholders ENI & DEPA, the Hellenic Ministry of Energy and Environment, the authorities, the Ministry of Energy and Environment, RAE for establishing the Regulatory Framework and all the Company staff for their collective effort towards the gas network deployment.
The first consumers have already been connected and the Company investment program provides for the construction of a 15km network to cover a large part of the town of Elassona.
Over the next five years, EDA THESS will invest €95m in the expansion of the natural gas distribution network and thus further penetrating in the regions of Thessaly and Thessaloniki. Palamas, Sofades, Agia and Nea Anchialos are the new areas to be supplied in 2019 in Thessaly.
Finally, he pointed out that the connection fees for consumers are free of charge and are expected to continue in 2019 as well.
Mr. Nikolaos Evangelou, Mayor of Elassona, described this day as a turning point in the history of the town.
He thanked EDA THESS and, in particular, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, General Manager of the Company, for their cooperation and stressed that after 10 years of recession, gas supply of the region was more than ever necessary, thus ensuring a reduction in heating cost for households and promoting entrepreneurship while protecting the environment.
Mr. Konstantinos Agorastos, Regional Governor of Thessaly, pointed out that, thanks to the cooperation of the Regional Government with EDA THESS, Thessaly supplies the largest number of consumers throughout the country – an achievement of multiple benefits for both the citizens and the environment. Ever since January 2019, the Region of Thessaly, in co-operation with EDA THESS, shall finance gas supply to deprived households by subsidizing installation after the meter. He stated that it is a €10m program, which shall be further increased if required and ended up saying the all stakeholders wanted all citizens to be given equal opportunities.
Mr. Nikolaos Papadopoulos, Larissa MP with SYRIZA (Radical Left governing party), referred to gas usefulness, handiness and, above all, economy; “I believe” he concluded “it is a historic moment for Elassona but for all areas supplied with natural gas, as well, compared to the era when these areas were supplied with water and current.”
